The FarReach Quilt is a unique category of Peace Quilt . The title is "All of a Peace" - Quilting For An Intact Human Race". Completed blocks will be displayed in the photo album which may be viewed online in pdf format,

Each block is symbolic of an  issue within the quest for an intact human race and is numbered. Each numbered block corresponds with the chart which provide explanations of its significance in the quilt and within the movement.

If you wish to sponsor a block for this unique historical project you may donate towards the cost of fabric, batting, embellishment materials etc. If a particular block and its symbolism appeals to you, you may list your name as donor of that perticular block.

FarReach Quilt for Education on Genital Mutilation

Could you sponsor a  9” quilt block to support  a human rights project?

Fondation FarReach Foundation (Foundation for Research and Re-Education Assuaging Circumcision Harms) is creating a quilt to educate doctors, parents and the public on the value of intact human genitalia.

Why? Because all infants, children and adults have a right to intact genitalia, and if cut, to healing and restoration if they wish

Let’s raise international consciousness with a beautiful quilt and help our own and future generations, enjoy intact health & happiness.

What will FarReach do with the Peace Quilt when it is completed

As blocks are competed and returned they will be added to the quilt in progress and photos of each posted on the Photo Album. These images will remain online to symbolize of our work promoting physical and psychological  and integrity. The actual quilt will tour with FarReach and NOCIRC  educators promoting these goals.

The Design

The quilt is a medallion design, nine by nine 9" blocks. The 'centrefold', a framed dawn skyscape will occupy fifteen centre blocks. The horizontal border wording is "Dawn on New Knowledge" and the vertical border wording is  "Celebrating Gentleness".

The unifying background  colour is waterprint cream contrasting with the predominant blues (for boys), pinks (girls), yellows (intersex babies), and greys (those circumcised in adulthood- see below). Intersexed babies' ambiguous genitalia are usually surgically altered usually leaving them without  sexual sensation and function, worsening their congenital deformities and destroying capacity for sexual relations. Men circumcised in adulthood compare sex without the foreskin to colour-blindness. They also state that out of 10 the pleasure quotient of the foreskin is 11 or 12; after circumcision only 2 to 3. Black, white and grey blocks symbolize these sensory losses to support men  circumcised in adulthood and thank them for their expressive insights on preserving the foreskin for its sensory and sexual value.

Individuals, literature, events in the history of the contemporary movement against mutilation, websites, and other  original contributions to public knowledge are included.

Block Descriptions

1, 9, 59, 67 Peace Star, a guiding light in the search for solutions to genital cutting or mutilation.

2, 4, 6, 8, etc. Peace Dove - Universal symbol of peace, white doves on backgrounds of blue, pink, yellow and grey signify the great need for peace in treatment of millions of infants, children and adults affected by the violence of genital cutting or mutilation.

5, 33, 36, 63 Peace Rose, an actual hybrid developed by ___ during WW II in honour of the desire for peace in Europe.

11, 17,51, 57   Joseph's Coat, coat of many colours, represents the much valued child - every child a child of infinite value, deserving of respect, regard and gentle treatment by all who have the honour and privilege of caring for them.

30 Central Theme, the dawn skyscape is based with liberal artistic license on Fig. 7b, p.294, Transilluminated mucosa indicating the intense vascularity and prominence of the ridges of the "ridged band", "The prepuce:Specialized mucosa of the penis and its loss to circumcision", in the British Journal of Urology, Vol. 77, February 1996. On first viewing this illustration the quilt artist was serendipitously impressed with its resemblance to modern art. The scientific epiphany indeed represents a dawn on new knowledge.

23, 34, 35, 44   Rolling Stone - gathers no moss - denotes change, in various tones of pink, blue, yellow/gold and greys; changes in knowledge, health practices, attitudes, history, human rights and relations, eschewal of age inequality, respect for the intact body, etc.
